About Plain Grace
Plain Grace offers individuals and families accompaniment and consideration at life’s most profound crossing. Based in the coast and quiet of Maine, I offer steadiness, compassion, and respect for the threshold between living and dying.
My role seeks to complement—not replace—existing hospice care; I collaborate with my client’s care team for seamless support. My services encompass companionship, assistance with errands, end-of-life and legacy planning, and organizational support, and are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual and family. I am based on Mount Desert Island, with footholds in Machiasport and Portland.
I hold space for what is unfolding with the belief that the in-between — the liminal — is not something to move past, but something to honor. I call my practice Plain Grace because I can't think of anything more helpful to offer people during times of fear, loss, uncertainty, and grief. My intention is to do work that is meaningful, simple, and human: to bear witness and offer support at the edge of change.

About Kate Macko
My name is Kate Macko, and I am a certified end-of-life doula and a recovering non-profit administrator.
Grounded by my own experiences of loss and grief, and with formal training through the University of Vermont’s End-of-Life Doula Program, my practice centers presence — being alongside, listening deeply, and offering plain grace within a time of uncertainty.
I live on the coast of Maine with my family and our dog, David Bowie.
